Multicultural Art Exhibition

Curated by a selection of six artists, the Multicultural Art Exhibition promises to be a showcase like no other. The exhibition will feature a selection of works by indigenous, oriental, eastern and western artists, unified by its focus on life’s moral virtues. Aunty Peggy is a Gumggari descendant from Michell in South-Western Queensland. She is a leading member of the Logan District Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation for Elders. As a highly respected Elder in Logan City with many contributions in the cultural, educational and arts community. She enjoys sharing the strength and wisdom of Indigenous culture with others through art. Her artworks are collected and exhibited by Logan City Council Art Gallery.

Yoshie Hughes was born in Hokkaido, Japan and came to Australia in 1996. She is greatly inspired to paint local beaches, waves and landscapes as well as portraits, which she finds extremely calming and enjoyable. Through her paintings, she tries to express warmth and gentleness of nature and hopes to be able to give people love, courage, and inspiration through her paintings and her career as an artist. Yoshie published a best-selling Art and Message Book titled "Tranquil Dawn" in Japan in June 2015 and held exhibitions of original paintings in 6 different cities including Sapporo, Tokyo and Osaka between July 2015 and April 2017. In June 2017, she entered d'Arcy Doyle Art Awards on the Gold Coast and received the Highly Commended Award.

Melody’s journey in art taught her how appreciating arts is different from creating it. Through life experiences, she has become more interested in discovering the depth and the inner world of the works of both Western and Eastern artists. On the path of sharing cultural experiences and creating art pieces, she learned from experts of different cultural backgrounds. They inspired her to dedicate herself to create platforms for artists and to connect the community through arts. She documents meaningful and impactful life experiences through her artworks, expressing raw emotions as an honest portrayal of life experiences.

April Giblin is a Contemporary Visual Artist exploring colour relationship through Fauvist inspired portraits and large scale abstract colour compositions. She also is a passionate secondary art teacher who enjoys being connected within a community, and supporting others and herself to live harmonious and fulfilled lives. April's energy for life can be seen in her artworks through the use of brush-strokes and choice of colour. She is currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Education (First Nations Education Practice), has previously completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) and Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary). April has been teaching and exhibiting for over 5 years in Brisbane, bringing together her two passions of art and education.

Dr. Renata Buziak is a researcher, educator, award-winning biochrome artist and ECO Harmony Guide. She is passionate about working with nature and letting plants lead her creative process. Her interdisciplinary practice includes intercultural and art-science research, and cross-disciplinary collaborations. Her recent PhD studio research focused on local Australian medicinal plants, significant to the Quandamooka Peoples of Minjerribah / North Stradbroke Island.

Her work has been displayed in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She has received several awards for her work, featured in private and public collections. For over a decade, Renata has worked with homeowners, business owners and leaders to enhance the experience of their spaces through art, science, and research. Until 2021 she has held teaching positions at Griffith University, as well as the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) since the year 2007.

Michelle's business is The Artist Tree, she lives at Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland with her partner Mick and their cattledog Cobba. She divides her time between painting in her studio, painting murals and teaching workshops. Michelle is best known for her large colourful pieces, but also enjoys working with a monochromatic palette. Her intuitive style is uninhibited by rules and boundaries. Michelle sells her art both locally and around the world from her online shop. Michelle’s Paintings on display are part of her current series "Inner Peace" each artwork depicts a figure pausing to find a moment of calm, a moment to connect with their power, revive their energy and continue with their purpose.
