Buddha Birth Day Festival

Since 1997, the Buddha Birth Day Festival has become one of Queensland’s most notable cultural events and is recognised for promoting peace, as well as celebrating Australia’s harmony and diversity.

During our 22 years at the South Bank Parklands, the festival attracted over 200,000 visitors per year and grew into one of the largest Buddha Birth Day Festival celebrations internationally. 2020 quickly became the year of disruption as the COVID-19 pandemic hit worldwide, which saw us go digital for the very first time with BBDF on Air.

In keeping with our theme of “Faith and Legacy”, the 2021 Buddha Birth Day Festival is excited to share our faith and continue the festival’s legacy by celebrating our 24th anniversary back home within the serene grounds of Chung Tian Temple.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 2021 words, “to cultivate a heart that blooms in all seasons”, has served as a reminder for us to diligently practice the blossoming of wisdom all year round and is the inspiration behind this year’s festival.

Visitors can immerse themselves in a wide range of ceremonies and activities from the spiritual to the cultural, such as tea meditation, Buddhist talks, a Baby Blessing and multicultural performances.

We welcome you to leave your worries behind, find your inner peace and experience the joy of the 2021 Buddha Birth Day Festival.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun

Venerable Master Hsing Yun is the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order (originated in Taiwan). His Dharma name, Hsing Yun, means ‘star cloud’ whilst Fo Guang Shan means “Buddha’s Light Mountain”. After enduring poverty and oppression during World War II, he devoted his life to revitalizing Buddhism so that it belongs to the people – not just reclusive monastic orders.
